We welcome Dairy Farm Co-Manager, Ronald Skoyen to Iowa State University Department of Animal Science!

Ronald SkoyenWe have a new face joining the Department of Animal Science Dairy Farm as Dairy Farm Co-Manager.  His name is Ronald Skoyen and he knows a lot about dairy.  Ronald comes to us from the US Dairy Forage Research Center in Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin.  There he spent nine years as an Ag Supervisor and then a Dairy Herd Manager and Research Program manager. He worked with USDA and UW Madison scientists to coordinate and carry out research involving 320 milking cows and 350 replacement heifers at the field station as well as maintaining the health of the herd.  

He received a Bachelor of Business Administration from the University of Wisconsin-Eau Clair and then a Masters of Business Administration from Cardinal Stritch University out of Madison.  Ron grew up on a dairy farm in Trempeleau County, Wisconsin and remained active in the family farm operation until 2006.  

Today, Ron will carry on responsibilities of a Co-Manager which includes overseeing a staff of 50 as well as 450 lactating dairy cows, 400 young stock, equipment care, feeding, reproduction and farm tours as well as general day-to-day operations of the Dairy Farm. Ron says "  I am excited to be part of the Department of Animal Science Dairy Farm.  I will remain dedicated to continuous improvement of personnel, animals and facilities in my care."
