Three Records Set at the State Fair Sale of Champions

Kale Boysen of Wapello FFA exhibited Grand Champion FFA Market Hog which weighed in at 284lbs and set an all-time record for any species with $54,000, selling for $1,000 more than the record in 2016. Kale will be senior at ISU majoring in Agriculture Studeis and minoring in Agronomy. He is a member of Block and Bridles Swine Interest Group and the Beginning Farmer's Network.

Max Petzenhauser of Story County exhibited the Grand Champion 4-H Meat Goat which sold for $19,000 and Nick Deppe of Bellvue FFA exhibited the Grand Champion FFA Meat Goat which sold for $16,000. Read more about Three Records Set at the State Fair Sale of Champions

Iowa State Fair Champion Animal Meat Viewing

This Friday is the Iowa State Fair Champions Animal Meat Viewing in 133 Meat Lab.  This event is held for exhibitors and their families, buyers, representatives from Iowa Foundation for the Advancement of Agriculture,  ISU meats judging team students and faculty to view the carcasses of the state fair champions.   Attendees will learn about different species used and various factors to determine the value of the carcass.  Steer, heifer, lamb, swine and goat meat carcasses will be available for viewing at 10:30am.  Champions data will be posted to Animal Sc Read more about Iowa State Fair Champion Animal Meat Viewing
