Graduate Students Receive Teaching and Excellence Awards
The Graduate College Teaching and Research Excellence Award recipients are announced each term. In the Department of Animal Science, we recognize the recipients for the year at the April Graduate Student Scholarship and Awards event. Animal Science Graduate Student Awarded 2nd Place in 3MT Competition
November 15 marked the Iowa State University Graduate College's first Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition. The goal of the event is for graduate students to summarize their research in three minutes or less to a non-expert audience. They are only allowed to use one static slide and no props. No time is built in for audience questions and the contestant can't even go one second over the 3 minute time or disqualification occurs. Kelsey Carlson, Graduate Student, is awarded MS Research Award from American Meat Science Association
Kelsey Carlson won the MS research award from the American Meat Science Association at the 2016 Reciprocal Meat Conference in San Angelo Texas.
Her poster, entitled 'Proteomic features associated with tenderness of aged pork loins' was one of twenty two posters in the division. Students from USA and Canada participated in the competition. Department Professors inducted into the Meat Industry Hall of Fame
The Department of Animal Science has two professors that have been included in the 2016 Class Members list for the Meat Industry Hall of Fame: Dr. Joe Cordray and Dr. Joe Sebranek.

2016 Iowa State University Intercollegiate Meat Judging Team National Western and ISU Contest Results
The ISU Meat Judging Team is comprised of seven students: Austin Egolf, Dillsburg, PA; Michaella Fevold, Story City; Zack Peppmeier, Shannon City; Michael Stender, Aurelia; Paige Whitney, Ida Grove; Rachel Wynn, Bedford, IN; and Laura Yoder, Kalona. 38th Annual Meat Evaluation Contest
The Department of Animal Science, Iowa State University Meat Science Extension, American Meat Science Association and faculty and staff are holding the 38th Annual Meat Evaluation Contest at the Meat Lab in Kildee Hall on Saturday, February 13. This Intercollegiate event includes Kansas State University, Michigan State University, North Dakota State University, South Dakota State University, Tarleton State University, Ohio State University, The University of Missouri, The University of Nebraska and of course Iowa State University.
