Iowa State University Livestock Judging Competes at National Western Stock Show

The Iowa State University Livestock Judging Team recently competed at the National Western Stock Show in Denver, CO. Iowa State finished 8th in swine and just outside of the top 10 overall in the hill contest. Individually, Kenton Lain, from Corydon, IA finished 9th in swine and Grace Seaba, from Muscatine, IA finished 5th in swine. In the carload contest, Iowa State was paced by John Fortin, from Darlington, WI, who was named the high individual in the contest. Iowa State finished 11th overall in the carload competition. ISU Judging Team Has Successful Run at the American Royal!

The 2016 Iowa State University recently competed at the American Royal Livestock Judging Contest in Kansas City, MO. This contest is one of the largest and most competitive events year round, with 25 teams and 125 contestants competing for top honors. This year, the Iowa State University Livestock Judging Team placed 5th in beef judging, 5th in sheep and goat judging, and 5th overall! ISU Judging Team Competes at National Western Stock Show

January 19, 2016

The ISU Livestock Judging Team competed in Denver, Colorado at the National Western Stock Show and placed 10th overall.  Kendell Steines was 7th in Sheep and Goats, Katlyn Kahler was 10th in Hogs.  The team scored 8th overall in the Carload Contest and Johnathan Triggs was 10th overall.  Team Members were Kendell Steines, Krisi Smith, Katlyn Kahler, Shayne Wiese, Shane Bockenstedet, Dustin Smith and Johnathan Triggs.  There were 24 Senior College Teams that competed at the National event.   Read more about ISU Judging Team Competes at National Western Stock Show

ISU Livestock Judging Team Takes 5th Place!

December 7, 2015

The 2015 Iowa State Livestock Judging Team capped off its season by finishing 5th at the North American Livestock Exposition, held in Louisville, Kentucky. This contest serves as the National Championship for Livestock Judging and marks the 4th time in 5 years that the ISU squad finished amongst the top 5 teams in the country. This contest marks the end of the judging year and the team was also honored at the banquet with two “All American’s”: Bailey Core and Elizabeth Heaton. Team Description

The Iowa State University Intercollegiate Livestock Judging Team is a youth development program that focuses on providing experiential learning. Iowa State boasts perhaps the most decorated judging program in the land, as the University team has won 20 National Championships, and more than any other program in the country. Research shows that students who participate in livestock judging improve their critical thinking, decision making and communication skills.
