We have a new face joining the Department of Animal Science Dairy Farm as Dairy Farm Co-Manager. His name is Ronald Skoyen and he knows a lot about dairy. Ronald comes to us from the US Dairy Forage Research Center in Prairie Du Sac, Wisconsin. There he spent nine years as an Ag Supervisor and then a Dairy Herd Manager and Research Program manager. The American Dairy Science Association Student Affiliate Division (SAD) awards an outstanding chapter yearbook and scrapbook each year at the Joint Annual Meeting. The Iowa State University Department of Animal Science Dairy Science Club received 3rd place in the scrapbook competition and 3rd place in the yearbook competition this year. They competed against colleges and universities across the nation. Winners receive plaques as well as monetary awards. The Dairy Science Club held their 87th annual banquet on March 6 at the Quality Inn and Suites in Ames Iowa. There were around 160 guests at the banquet. Over $48,000 was awarded in scholarshipsto students at the banquet. The Dairy Science club has around 100 members and the club officers include Celina Young - President, Karla Hageman - Vice President, Cassie Krebill - Secretary as well as additional officers in the club. Dairy Science Club is open to students of all majors who are interested in the dairy industry. To join all you need to do is attend a club meeting and volunteer to get involved! There are club dues of $20 each year. These dues allow you to participate in club activities, vote during club elections and be eligible to run for an office.
