Dr. Don Beitz received notice that he will receive the Faculty/Staff Inspiration Award from the ISU Alumni Association. This award was established in 2011 as a way for former ISU students to recognize current or former faculty or staff who had a significant influence on their lives as students at ISU.
The NSIF held their annual meeting in Raleigh, North Carolina Thursday and Friday of last week. The Federation has an annual two-day conference that attracts leading swine breeders, industry and university geneticists, and prominent international figures in swine breeding. Papers presented during these conferences address both theory and practice of swine improvement. Workshops, panel discussions and concurrent sessions are used to maximize the information transfer and general value for everyone attending the conference. The Animal Science Department has eight members that are being honored on this coming Monday (Sept. 26) at the University Award Ceremony. The Ceremony will be held at 3:30 pm in the Great Hall of the Memorial Union.

The Poultry Science Association had their annual meeting at the Hilton in New Orleans, Louisiana on July 11- 14.

Targeting Excellence just announced that they have awarded $123,000 in combined scholarships to 58 students from Iowa, Minnesota, North Carolina and Pennsylvania. The scholarships were awarded to students enrolled in two-year, four-year, graduate and veterinary programs with a focus on food animal agriculture. Four of the six recipients from Iowa were from Iowa State University's Animal Science Program. These students are Danielle James, Kristin Hansen, Shelby Curry and Tyler Triggs.
